How much time does your child spend on devices?

There's no need to feel guilty Reader.

In the world we live in, devices are almost inevitable, (and it's great having learning at your fingertips📱) but have you ever stopped to think about how much interaction is taking place?

Is your child able to interact with digital learning activities or are they only receptors of information?

Are they able to express their thinking and gain insightful feedback when learning online?🤔

A few months ago a parent (R.J.) came to us with concerns about her two sons and their desire to read (or lack thereof).

"I want to work with them, but I don't have time."

"I purchased ***(online program) to help, but we hardly ever use it and lessons don’t seem to fit.”

Although she could adjust the lessons, none of them seemed quite right.

We were able to work with R.J.'s children in our online sessions to help them find books that they were interested in and increase their desire to read for leisure.

R.J. saw her sons making the choice to read without being asked, and for her this moment was priceless.

She also had a few takeaways from this experience:

  • Online programs don’t keep you accountable.
  • Even adaptive online programs don’t always adjust appropriately to a child’s needs and interests.
  • It feels good to have live person interaction even when working online.
  • It is still possible for children to read for pleasure even in a device-filled world.

R.J.'s children went from being unenthusiatic about reading to choosing to read for enjoyment without being asked.

Reader, we know you've already been thinking about your child's future.

If you're ready to help them develop problem solving and critical thinking skills while making the independent choice to read, book a call with us today to find out how our programs can serve you.
